E36 DME Question

I am having DME issues and have a 1994 318I with the 261-203-357 DME, can I switch it with a 261-203-282 DME? if I find another 261-203-357 DME will I need to switch my computer chip, or can I plug it in and expect it to run?

PS: I would appreciate a response from anyone what can answer the question asap!!!! Thanks

DME e36 July 1994 318i Bosch OBD I / DME

Were you able to work out an answer to your chip question?

I have a 318i e36 July 1994 Bosch OBD I / DME that does not activate when procedure is followed.

Car is running fine but cannot activate the DME to see the fault codes and apparently it might not be working.

I had no replies to my post either so I was guessing to try replacing the 'chip' without having a clue what I am doing.

Any ideas...anyone?
Cheers
