What does a bad rear wheel bearing sound like?
I've got this strange loud noise comming from the rear of my '92 318is. A freind say's its a wheel bearing. The sound sounds like your'e driving on a rough paved road.
Thanks! |

Jack the car up and spin the wheels. It could be a few things. It might be a bad Guibo disc (at least that's what we call them) that connects the transmission shaft and the rear diff.
Listen to where the sound is coming from when you spin. Could be differential, or wheel bearings... -Wayne

Could be something loose and rattling around, even. I've read elsewhere here that rear shock mounts are known (possible) failure points on these cars, so it may be worth looking there as well.
