Hi, I have a BMW 318i 2004 - the problem is this ... drove car from cold it had hardly any power on acceleration - foot to floor - I kept on driving and it suddenly was fine. Got to where I was going and switched off. An hour later started fine. 10 mins drive with no probs, got home and switched off. 10 mins later tried to start but wouldn't engine was warm. Left half hour and tried to start again then it started. Drove to garage to fill up with petrol and then it wouldn't start engine was warm Tried fifteen mins later and it started. Got home undid cap for petrol and replaced - car wouldn't start again perhaps cos engine was warm?. The car is at a Garage and they say it's the timing chain. Please help - rather confused at mo

If the timing is off, you will have poor drivability and possibly a hot restart problem like you described. I would ask your mechanic to explain what is going on to you. If they diagnosed it, they have info to share with you.
