i have a 95 318i with a 94 325is vanos motor and 5 speed swap ... was over heating and starting to smoke vapor it seemed.. before i replace thermostat , water pump ,radiator and fluids .. when "replacing thermostat" .. well it wasn't in there ??? idk .... NOW it wont pass the half way mark .. seem's still a lil hott .. also when shut off the car .. i heard a bubbling from the top of the motor .. upon closer examining .. the coil pack closest to the fire wall .. coolant is very slowly bubbling or boiling coming up thru the spark plug hole... could this be the head gasket or should i look in to check the head ???

I would check the head for a crack if coolant is coming out of the spark plug hole.
