E36 328i Camshaft Position sensor fault

Car is a 98 E36 328i with 140K miles. The car has run virtually flawless up to last week. Check Engine light accompanied a loss in power below 3K RPM's. Scan with Peake tool revealed faulty Camshaft Position sensor. Replace sensor (Meyle brand), reset the codes and Check Engine light went off. The second time I started the car, the Check Engine Light came on again with the same results. Physical inspecion of the wiring looks good. There is also no unusual noise coming from the VANOS. Would appreciate a little guidance on where to looks next. Thanks.
