Mud Flap (Thingy)

What are the mud flap-like things in front of the rear tires called? Are they available on the aftermarket?
Thanks.

These are pieces of rubber, just like a mud flap would be. As you can see (or not), these are quite worn and I'd like to replace them. Worst case, I'll just get rid of them altogether. But my old BMW, Moto Guzzi days tell me that these are there to deflect road debris, kicked up from the front tires, from getting into the rears, like a nail or something.

Thats what I would assume they were for as well. I dont think this is something we would stock. I believe it would have to be a special order from the dealer.

Which means that they'll take forever to get here and will be grossly overpriced. Anywhere you can check? Or other sources I can check?

Trim Pnl. - Drivers part# 51 71 8 130 071
Trim Pnl. - passenger part# 51 71 8 130 072

They are $3.60 each.

These are the part numbers for that rubber flap, for e36 328is. Should be the same for other e36s.

So, MJKramer, where did you end up getting them. Mine are toast and I ripped off the one that was hanging... probably should replace it. Do you remember your vendor, or did you just go to the dealer?

Wow... I just looked the dates on this post.... the third post up was from 10/29/02... good Lord, several years ago!!!

Bought mine at the dealer.
The had the left one in stock, but had to order the right (or the other way around...it's been a while). It only took 2 days and I had both , went home and put them on in just a few minutes.

Stuff like that really bugs me...

Good luck.

Thanks, Mike. Looks like I'll be getting it from my dealer. I don't notice mine that much, but sometimes when walking out across a parking lot I can see a scraggly little reminant of a flap hanging down... just looks tacky. I'll get it fixed up.

Just goto the pelican parts catalog, type the part number into the search box, it will let you order the part. $3.60 each. It just takes about a week to get them because of it being a special order part.
