BMW Roundel 318i random chime sound when driving

I've been hearing this "chime sound" while I'm driving the car. It sounds just one time and then stops. It is the same sound that happens when you first start the car. Very strange. Thanks

It's possible you may have set the computer to a certian speed. I know that on my car, there is a feature that allows you to have a warning chime to come on when you have exceeded a certian speed.

It's not the speed i'm gong because sometimes it happens at red lights.(if that was the case, how would i set my speed so it wouldn't go off?)on another note, I did install 80watt Xenon bulbs a couple of days ago.

What did you do when you installed those? Was it a plug in, or did you have to cut and splice?

All I did was plug in. very simple. the bulbs were 9006 and 9005. Both are a direct replacement for my factory bulbs.

I had this same issue on my BMW. I felt so stupid when I figured it out!

The radio / clock chimes 30 seconds before the beginning of the hour - supposedly to let you know so that you can tune into a news station to catch the updates!

Let me know if that's the issue. There is a way to turn it off on the computer (it's one of those esoteric settings).

HO HUM!!! I've been wondering about this chime that KEEPS COMING AND GOING!! It'll chime 3 times though. I've NEVER understood what it was. My friends all look at me as if I have an explanation everytime it goes off. Yet, i just shrug my shoulders and say I have no clue. I'll check my watch the next time it goes off!

It figures that it would be something like this..

While Im a fan of new technology, I think BMW does go a bit too far when it scomes to driver convienence. Have you seen the new 7 Series with the I-Drive? I wouldnt be surprised if they have some sort of electronic nostril trimmer that comes out at the push of a button..

My '95 325i also chimes when the temp gets close to (37F) freezing. But not 3 times. There's also a memo function, I wonder if someone left you a recurring present?

My '98 328iC chimes when it goes from 37F to 38F. Haven't looked into a progrramable feature on this yet. Kind of wierd in my opinion.

Thanks, I just found that when it goes below 38 degrees, the chime sounds. I can't figure out how to turn this off though.

One of the mysteries of life. I'll look in the manual tonight. See if I can't figure something out. Is this your only "random chime"?

Yeh, this is the only "chime" that is currently occuring. I got my car a month ago and unfortunatly it didn't come with a manual.

well, i was driving around in my car and it is the stupid reminder about the clock saying its the new hour. How annoying, i wish i could turn it off. However, i felt so proud to finally understand what that strange chime was. THanks much

It's the temperature warning. It happens when the outside temperature becomes 4 celcius or so.

Yes 37 degrees Farenhiet. There's no way to defeat it. IT's there to warn of the possibiliy of ice on the roadways.
