Just bought new Konis
for the rear.
Will install tonight and give it a thrashing the likes of which it has never experienced before ![]() Hopefully the bouncy rear end will be tamed at last.......

Sounds great!
Let us know how they feel. Are you also replacing the springs? |

No plans. They are low & stiff anyway!
Hey, does anyone know much about the 525e bottom ends? Are they 2.8? I hear they just might be.....

The 528e is a 2.7 the same motor as in the 325e. Apparetly with an 325i head, you can build a 230+hp motor.

Yes, that's the one.
My friend here is trying to chase one down for his E30 M, claiming they will take the 325i head etc. I found one here last week for a couple of hundred U.S, but I think I'll let him do the experimenting first; my car still needs to get me to wk every day (albeit sideways).. I wonder how the compression ends up. There's so much cheap stuff around compared to the Porsche. I feel like I'm in a toy shop.

From what i understand, it's not as simple as just bolting the head on. I think you have to modify some of the oil galleys in the "I" head to work with the "e" block. I think you also have to use "I" pistons as well. From what I understand, It's more about the stroke of the "e" block that makes you able to make more power.
Has he looked into installing possibly an M50 motor out of the E36 cars? He would be able to do a lot more with that engine, and the costs would probably be about the same. The nice thing about the M50's is that they have the Vanos DOHC setup. I think there is a CD-ROM floating around there that actually walks you through the swap. It's called Project ORCA or something similar. |

project orca
Hi there:
Say, fyi, those guys at Zionville Autosport are real *******s. I dropped them a note to ask a few questions about what things cost and their reply was "if you have to ask you cant afford it and this is probably not a project for you" Considering that Dinan will tell you to the penny what everything costs and how long it will take, I thought these guys were real posers. Shop at your own risk! Talk to you later about those rockers! take care jeff |

Thanks for the info!
I did the swap last night on the driveway- my garage was busy with other cars ![]() The Konis were installed as supplied. I didn't alter the stiffness, mainly because the instructions said NOT to. I was sorely tempted, and now wish i had. They're great, but I think the'd be even better with a notch of stiffness dialled in. It's been raining hard all night so no chance for some heavy cornering on the way to work this morning on my favourite twisties...... has anyone chopped the centre muffler box out of their twin pipe system? I think you guys will have a CAT in there, but mine is a similar sized resonant box, CAT delete option. I'm considering deleting the whole thing to let me hear the motor a bit more. Is it over the top??

If you remove the CAT, you will actually lose HP. In these cars, you need the added back pressure, to make the car run correct. If you remove the CAT, you will notice that the car will lose a small bit of low end response. If you really want to hear the engine, I would suggest installing a cold air intake, along with a HIGH flow CAT-back exhaust system.
