code 1273 after replacing coil plugs

I replaced all the coil packs, wires and plugs on my 1995 m3 and after a short while, it started running rough and the code I get is 1273 doing a stomp test. Since the coil packs were all new , the supplier replaced one thinking it was the culprit. I replaced the #3 coil pack and the car starts smoothly again but once I get it up into RPM’s , the check engine light comes on and starts running rough again. The code is coming up still as the 1237.

A couple of things:

1. It only has one grounding strap at cylinder 6 however there is a stud next to coil pack 3 that could take another. Many owners of the 95 m3’s in later build dates have two- one at 6 and one at 3. My build date is 8/95. Possible that this is the culprit and the mechanic who first replaced the coil packs never put the strap by cylinder 3 back on?
2. Ever hear of a bad plug right out of the box? I haven't pulled it yet because it seemed unlikely
3. I did not clear the code after it first came up- but I can’t. Stomping the pedal for 10+ seconds doesn’t seem to do it.


Is their a more detailed code reader for the obd 1 bmw than the stomp test?
