BMW 3-Series window binding after regulator replacement

I have a 2-door 328is manufactured 12/95 on which I have replaced the regulator and the plastic sliders. When the regulator is not connected to the window, the motor/regulator unit appears to operate perfectly. However, when connected to the window, it goes down fine, but gets stuck going up. It seems that the motors' anti-pinch function is engaging repeatedly, and the window will only move further upward with assistance pulling on the top of the glass.

Is there any kind of test that can definitively determine whether the problem is with the motor, or if the window is somehow binding?

Only process of elimination.

Try lubricating the window seals and rubber guides, I have seen them tear or wear and cause glass to bind. Also, if the regulator moves smooth without the motor on it, it is likely ok.

Nick, this is Steve, again (logged in).

Just to be clear, did you mean to say that the motor is probably ok, if it runs well when attached to the regulator, but when the regulator is not attached to the window? Because, that's what I have actually tested...

One more thing: what should I use to lubricate the rubber parts? Thats about the only thing that I haven't tried.

I believe he meant that if the regulator moves smoothly without the motor in tact (attached to the window) that the regulator is probably fine. I could be wrong in deciphering what he's saying. You will get a reply from Nick if you leave another comment on the article itself.
