There's PLENTY of life left after 189,000. My car still runs like a champ and it has 163,000. I would be very weary about buying a car thats been modded - usually that means that its been driven hard. While our cars can stand being driven hard - its always best to find an unmolested example so you can personally molest it yourself.
Also - there is no 1993 328. From 1992-1995 there was the 325. From 96-98, there was the 328. Its best to go and get the car checked out by a mechanic before you buy it - they can easily check for potential problems. BMWs are pretty reliable - however there are several little quirks that you have to watch out for or else it becomes VERY VERY expensive to bring it back to spec.
