Also check where the the throttle rod off the trans passes up through the engine tin slot to the throttle linkage base,
Mine was bent slightly barley rubbing on the slot opening.... just enough to sometimes prevent the throttle to return 100% to the off (idle) position.
Would “hang” or stick at about 1400 RPM until I would blip the accelerator... to get it to release back to normal. Use to drive me crazy at red lights or stop signs.
When I dropped the motor replace the clutch...changed all the throttle springs & bushings etc. very easy to do with motor out.
