The "red back plate" is actually a red plastic lens. It mimics the look of a number of 911s of the era. Many of them are actually 911 parts that are cut down on each end to fit between the 914's taillights; a few are aftermarket parts made to fit the 914 specifically.

No 914 was delivered from the factory with a reflector like that.

If you install one, you either have to cut a hole for the rear trunk release button, or swap out for some other way of opening the rear trunk (e.g., a solenoid or a pull cable).

Chrome bumpers were an option on all 914s up through the 74 model year, when all 914s changed over to the big black rubber bumpers. The chrome was standard on the 914-6 and the 73 2.0 models (with a few exceptions) and was extra-cost on the rest.

The not-chrome option for bumpers was to have them body-colored in 70-72, and black in 73-74. (Actually, I'm not certain about 73; they may have had body-colored as well.)
