The "original" black guards are thick and stiff. Also they are peel and stick.
Before you apply, make sure they are warm enough to be very flexible. The contact surface too. Have your heat gun plugged in and handy, just in case.
Surface should be clean, clean, clean. No wax, etc. Might even use a clay bar?
The adhesive is very good and doesn't allow second tries.
Find the spot to start where the bottom will be parallel with the car's lines. Then I started at the bottom of the wheel arch and followed it up around the arch. After the curve edge was attached, I worked outward. Practice once or twice before actually exposing the adhesive?
