Sorry to read about your troubles Jameel, that indeed sucks big time.
I have a metal clad LED light in my modded lighter port. I just checked my insert and it is about 1/4" away from the side "+" tabs.
Every time my wife plugs in her power cord she just loves to twist it, I have no idea why but she never shorted it out
