The bigger question is what kind of riding do you want to do. Do you wanna sport tour, adventure tour or literally just slab it down the freeway. Different tools for the job, although there is some crossover.

600 miles in one day on your Paul Smart? I am not worthy... I did about 400 one day on my Super Sport.. It was farther than intended, so I got home later than expected. My wife heard me booming up the hill a couple of blocks from our house, so she ran down an opened the garage for me. She was heading back upstairs as I pulled the bike in.
Well, about 15-20 minutes later, I had not yet made an appearance upstairs, so she ran back down to see what was up. She found me still sitting on the bike, leaning up against the center post in the garage. She had to help me get off of it...

Heh heh - fair enough. I've been riding the darn things since the '70's. Old fears die hard... Hell, I rode around with the same extra quart of oil in my 2000 Road King's saddle bag for about the first five years I owned that thing before I admitted to myself that I could probably use that room for something else.
