If you were just pulling the stack out when the ball fell...
wouldn't it be more likely the ball came form one of the bearings... The 2 bearing retainers seem to always come apart during this job, and are often trashed from what I've heard/read...

I think the shift lock out balls would roll out if their plug was opened, but I don't think they just fall out loose otherwise?

Of course I could be wrong, and I defer to those more knowledgeable than I... but I'd take another look at those 2 seperate bearings for a missing ball....
