I got my seats for $1100 three years ago. They're cloth RS America sport seats in very good condition. Seems to me the price has gone up a bit on sport seats. For $1600, you should be able to get a pair of excellent condition Porsche sport seats. If you are really desiring the support and lightweight issues, for the same money you might want to consider something like the Recaro SRD or Pole Position, Sparco, Momo, Cobra, etc. I know you can get a set of Pole Position seats for less than $1600. Some of the other brands mentioned are cheaper yet. Just remember that many of them have fixed seatback angles (SRD is adjustable).

Also depends on what year are the Carrera seats. The shape/design of them changed a little bit, somewhere around 1985. I personally like the later post-85 sport seats. Earlier ones look a bit dated in my opinion.

The power seats are indeed heavy. The RS America seats (4 way front-rear tilt) are much heavier than the non-power, non-sport partial leather passenger seat that originally came in my car. But the additional support of the sports is a nice upgrade. The cool thing about the black seats you're considering? A little black shoe polish on that worn bolster (actually the whole seat if you feel like it) and you're looking almost like new. I kid you not. Made my original '87 seats look great!
