I'm sure it can be done, but if you're going to go through all the trouble, why not just do a V8 conversion? Check out the Renegade Hybrids site; they do 'em all the time. Just get a 350 small block Chevy engine - THOSE are cheap and easy to find parts for! Perhaps more so than the 2.8L V6. Gas mileage would be absolutely atrocious, but man, that would be fun!
In the Porsche community, such cars are refered to as "ba$tard children" or "franken-cars", but it's awfully hard to argue with the performance numbers. . . They smoke recent model 911s on a regular basis. Of course I'm basing this on the 944 conversions; don't know too much about 924s going through it, but I imagine it wouldn't be THAT much different. I think the 924s are actually a bit lighter, which might help performance-wise.
