I bought a 1970 911T that had been in storage for a long period (7yrs). The car had not been properly prepared for storage and there were multiple problems all related to the fuel turning to varnish. Just to get the engine running (to find out it was trashed) I had to have the carbs done, the fuel pump, the gas tank removed and cleaned, and a minor tune. Dependent on the condition of your car depends on where you should start and how mechanical you need to be. I've left all of the real mechanical stuff to the pros.
