There is a little adjuster screw -- but only if you have the early Type I clock, not the Type II or even later VDO Quartz clock! I think you missed this at the end of the tech article:

Adjustment of the clock speed is made by the small slotted screw which protrudes through the rear cover. Counter-clockwise goes faster. Best that I can tell, each 1/8 of a turn affects the clock by about 5 minutes per day.
