Engine removal, tranmission questions

I have an 83SC and preping to drop the engine/trans weds.

The clutch adjusting lever was being removed as to Wayne's book page 28 (101 Projects). The adjustment lever was starting to move and about half way through the removal it became stuck.

I gingerly tapped (about 4 times) the adjustment lever back in place when I heard a metal bolt falling sound (I am guessing within the engine/transmission mating area).

Questions:

1. if something broke what could it be? (release fork, roll pin, retaining ring...)
2. when I seperate the trans from the engine how difficult will it be to see if I broke something?
3. if it is the release fork or misc hardware, is there any special things I need to know remating the engine and trasnmission after I fix this item(s) (assuming no other projects. IE new clutch assy, flywheel...)

I have read wayne's clutch replacement project. How do I tell if I need a new clutch assy or do I buck up and replace it?

Again, as always, thanks for your help in advance.

PS My oil leak is causing a serious mess. My goal is to fix the oil leak. I am attepmting to avoid major while I'm in there costs or projects unless they are needed.
