Engine removal, tranmission questions
I have an 83SC and preping to drop the engine/trans weds.
The clutch adjusting lever was being removed as to Wayne's book page 28 (101 Projects). The adjustment lever was starting to move and about half way through the removal it became stuck. I gingerly tapped (about 4 times) the adjustment lever back in place when I heard a metal bolt falling sound (I am guessing within the engine/transmission mating area). Questions: 1. if something broke what could it be? (release fork, roll pin, retaining ring...) 2. when I seperate the trans from the engine how difficult will it be to see if I broke something? 3. if it is the release fork or misc hardware, is there any special things I need to know remating the engine and trasnmission after I fix this item(s) (assuming no other projects. IE new clutch assy, flywheel...) I have read wayne's clutch replacement project. How do I tell if I need a new clutch assy or do I buck up and replace it? Again, as always, thanks for your help in advance. PS My oil leak is causing a serious mess. My goal is to fix the oil leak. I am attepmting to avoid major while I'm in there costs or projects unless they are needed.

No use trying to guess what broke/fell off. You will find out when you separate the engine/tranny. It will be easy to see what it is as there is not much in the bell housing other than the release fork. I believe the minimum thickess for the clutch plate is 6mm at the thinnest point. On the flywheel look for scoring or blue marks. You can resurface the flywheel, but get someone that knows how to correctly do a Porsche flywheel as you need the correct cutter so as not to leave a shoulder on the outer edge. Where is the oil leaking from?

appreciate your reply.
Oil leak(s) from the top of the engine where it meets the transmission. I hope it is the usual areas but I am prepared for the worst. I will keep the forum posted with my findings. I have said this before, owning the car is just the entry fee...

you only have to remove the short lever to separate engine and trans. the long one can stay on. just pop it forward when the short one is off to ease the drag on the release fork shaft.

I have already removed both spring assemblies.
I am getting good at taking pictures and labling the crap put of everything. Just getting nervous one what I will find when the engine comes down.
