I just did this. Tyson at TRE wired my voltmeter. There are plenty of hot lines under the dash. The radio or the cigarette lighter come to mind.
I used the #5 cylinder for the CHT, and was unable to get a plug to seat in the top hole (I have a twin-plugged motor), but had no problem with the bottom one. You do have to bend the point where the sender ring attaches to its lead.
As a precaution, I would put a piece of electrical tape around the lead where it comes out of the hole. That's where I saw some fraying.
