Make your own engine stand from a bad tranny?

I just finished a 901 tranny rebuild and have a bad Mg case. There is a hole in the bottom of the diff housing from the case sitting in some sort of caustic material. At least the internals were in excellent shape and became good donors for the rebuild.

Now I am left with this case which was going to go in the recycling bin (metal recycling center).

Has anyone cut the bell housing off, and bolted it to an engine stand thus allowing a 911 case to bolt up? It would be easy to relieve areas for access to the flywheel.

Watch out, I have a sawzall and am not afraid to use it...

I will report back in a few hours with the results.
