hi FR. i hear what you are saying, and everything is tight on the shaft. the problem is that there is way too much play, because of the distance between the bearings/spacers. the shaft that the red gear is attached to, can actually move about 1/4 inch, allowing the gear to close up to the main wall. i need to make a small plastic spacer, that will take up the gap between the gear and the wall, but allowing about 1mm of play, as the whole assembly "rocks" as it turns. i have jury-rigged such a spacer, and it seems to be doing the job. i will make the proper one, and have it ready, should my rough and ready one fail !
