It's possible that the clutch cable tube got messed up when the engine jumped up and back down. Can your clutch cable be tightened up any futher? Sometimes the clutch cable tube (the part that goes form the tunnel to the transmission, can get un-seated and the clutch cable may seem tight but when you engage the pedal, this tube moves a little and prevents you from engaging the clutch all the way.
