Do your doors open with the outside handle if the door is unlocked?

I had a problem with my 75 (actually, when I went to look at the car I had to use a wire slim jim to wind the window down to get into the car!), somtimes it would work fine and other times the key would unlock the door (I could see the little lock tab pop out) but it wouldn't open with the handle. After a week or so of unlocking the Targa top when I closed the doors I took the doors apart.

On the 914 door handle there is a little plastic piece I can't begin to descibe. They still make repo's and in may case new ones fixed the problem. Also it is important to clean and lubricate ALL the moving parts in the door. It made a world of differance on mine. From "squish-squish" to "clunk-clunk".
