Door Locks Can't Open W/Key!
Help! My doors lock & open manually, but when I go to open them with the key they don't! Any advice or things to check for?

Remove your locks, take it to a locksmith. They can rekey your locks. BTW, buy some new keys while your there. Total cost should be around $25.00 w/o keys. I did this last summer, works fine. Good luck!

Never had this problem with a 914 but...
try WD40 .Use that little red nozzel.Shoot it into the key slot. Might save a few bucks. |

Do your doors open with the outside handle if the door is unlocked?
I had a problem with my 75 (actually, when I went to look at the car I had to use a wire slim jim to wind the window down to get into the car!), somtimes it would work fine and other times the key would unlock the door (I could see the little lock tab pop out) but it wouldn't open with the handle. After a week or so of unlocking the Targa top when I closed the doors I took the doors apart. On the 914 door handle there is a little plastic piece I can't begin to descibe. They still make repo's and in may case new ones fixed the problem. Also it is important to clean and lubricate ALL the moving parts in the door. It made a world of differance on mine. From "squish-squish" to "clunk-clunk". |
