Been offline for a while, catching back up...
About the question of kick-stand. Yes this belly pan has a slot on the left side for the kick stand. The company also makes a model that allows the use of the standard R1100S center-stand also, but I'm not sure what that looks like.
I also think that the pan would look good in a non-solid color motiff. I had a mind to dust off the airbrush and have a go at blending / fading the checkering on the upper fairing as well as continuing the pattern onto the belly pan, but then the bathroom remodelling, the carpeting, the painting, and the landscaping got going.
As far as functionality, the only thing I notice while riding on the street regards sound. I've checked this a couple times, and I find that there is a lot more mechanical engine type sound with the pan off. I'm guessing that there is more mechanical sound from the engine internals being reflected off the tarmac back up to the rider. With the pan on, there's kind of a muffling effect. You still hear the valve gear, obviously, but there's a significant dampening of other engine-related sound. Maybe I'm crazy on this one though.
