Take a close look at the cable. Mine recently did the same thing as yours (symptoms), and luckily, it was just a cable that was starting to separate. Mine was about halfway separated right where it attaches at the tranny end, but yours could also be at the other end. Like someone else mentioned, it could also be your pedal assy (there is a rolled pin that locks the pedal to the assy). Good luck with it. The cable job should take a couple of horus. I was also lucky and had some good help from a fellow Pelican that lives an hour away. The hardest part was when I went to reattach the cable to the pedal assy end. That end proved to be a pain due to tight quarters and a "slightly" wider girth on my part! I can post some pics later if it would help.
