I was involved in a device trial involving extracorporeal photopheresis were a patient would have their blood enter a machine that centrifuged out the red cells and white cells. We asked that patients fast before the procedure so the electronic sensors could detect the red and white cells. We had one patient who decided to eat a big mac prior to the procedure (and didn’t tell anyone) and the sensors couldn’t even read the cells because the blood was too “murky”. Just goes to show… What’s even worse are those who smoke, puts you at a really high risk (Framingham Score).
