I have the book - it's fair but not fantastic.

I bought this book because I also have the 914 version - that is a fantastic book. The guy is really a 914 expert and I have used that book as my 914 bible for years. He's got fantastic tips for the 914

As far as the 944 version, it's much smaller (about a 3rd the size of the 914 book). Most of the tips, I've already read on this board. However, I did pick up a tip about checking vacuum leaks where you cut a fuel filter in half, attached it to the intake boot, and pump it with air from a bicycle pump - I tried this and found my last leak - So, I found the book to be worth it but still far less valuable than the 914 version.

If you like to collect 944 stuff (including books) I'd get it - it's only $15

Also, it depends on your car's situation. My '88 944 only has 29k miles on it so there's nothing wrong with it. If you've got an older 924 or 944, this may be the book you need.
