I think the biggest comparison here is that buy 83 the Nissan 280zx was a boated cruiser that could be made into a competent car with lots of work. Just looking at the seats you can tell the market had changed for the car. No longer were the seats high bolstered sports seats but now they were small couches. The power is prob about the same, the nissan motor is more bullet proof but as Obin pointed out in most of the country that's about all you'll have left. I think a better comparison would be with a early 280Z or even a late 240. These cars were much more on the sporting level with the nissan but their creature comforts were very lacking.
