Well truth be known my 944 is an 83 (model year) but was built in 82. My "birth certificate" from PCNA gives the build date as 82. If the car in question is a true 82 then it is a Euro model because the cars were released in Europe a year before they were premiered in the states.

compare and contrast the two:

under no circumstances would i buy the Datsun. unless it spent its entire life in an air conditioned bank vault... it's already turned into a big pile of rusty crap. any time you see an older Datsun that hasn't been restored, or stored in a museum... it looks like a beater. the metal in those cars was absolutely terribble quality. when you shut the doors it sounds like you're closing the door on a top loading washing machine. chances are the electrical system has corroded, and the body is sagging.

the Porsche was built with galvanized metal, so it's still in one piece.

the only old Datsuns i'd buy would be race cars. the race cars are VERY potent, and all the stupid low-quality stuff has been gutted out of them to make way for beefier components that won't fold around you if you crash. the street cars are in such poor shape i'd never trust my safety to them.

Obin a little hostility against Nissan ?

Obin -
what did nissan do to piss in your cornflakes JK.

ok-
I think the biggest comparison here is that buy 83 the Nissan 280zx was a boated cruiser that could be made into a competent car with lots of work. Just looking at the seats you can tell the market had changed for the car. No longer were the seats high bolstered sports seats but now they were small couches. The power is prob about the same, the nissan motor is more bullet proof but as Obin pointed out in most of the country that's about all you'll have left. I think a better comparison would be with a early 280Z or even a late 240. These cars were much more on the sporting level with the nissan but their creature comforts were very lacking.
