I was wondering what kind of vehicle they were using to take the photos. A lot of the camera angles/heights are pretty tall, meaning they'd need an omnidirectional camera array on a big pole sticking out the top of a van or truck probably. Not the most inconspicuous thing. I spent a lot of time last night looking at "street view" shots of where I used to live in Chicago - lots of pedestrians on the sidewalks, etc. but NONE of them seemed to be staring at the camera with a "WTF is that" look on their faces. So the camera thing has to be at least somewhat incognito or inconspicuous. Don't know how they're accomplishing it.

A crazy "Back to the Future" kind of vehicle would get a little more attention from the other drivers/pedestrians, I'd think - people staring, pointing, etc. If they drove big trucks with "Google Earth Mapping Project" on the side or whatever, there'd probably be a lot of "exhibitionism" too. Maybe that'd be an interesting social experiment to try - wonder how many titty flashes and moons you'd get. . .

Anyway, just thought it was odd. Wonder how they're pulling it off in broad daylight, in urban areas - without getting so much as a second look apparently.

I also noticed that their database was off a little bit address-wise for my old residence in grad school.
