I always wanted to build a 76/77 as a low presure 3.5-3.6. Now with the Nickie's and the righ crank it can even become a 3.8. Keep it stock looking but with an efficient turbo. Run C2 cams and about 8/1 compression with 5/7 lbs.

The other way to go is maybe a 3.2 conversion. I would use a set of SSI's converted for a turbo (see ben and M&K), C2 cams and a new K27-7200. Maybe do some custom coatings on the piston, valve tops, and heads to manage heat some.

Could start with a set of used Carrera cylinders, have them bored and use J&E pistons.

The increase in size, bigger cam, more efficient turbo and headers could make is run very well.

Might have someone recurve the distributor that knows what they are doing. Might look into using an MSD system that has a vac retard function built in instead of the stock bost retard system.

Then, a good dyno tune.
