The leather dash was "standard" on Turbos through '86. A car could be special ordered with a vinyl dash, usually by dealers in hot climates where the leather was especially prone to warping. After all of the warranty claims, Porsche officially ended leather dashes for 930s after the '86 model year.
I'm not sure when they eventually worked out the issues with warping, but I don't think it was until the 993 that leather dashes were reintroduced.
