Leather Dash?
Does anyone know when Porsche stopped offering the stitched leather dash on 930s? I have heard it was at some point in 1986, but my 86 has a non-stitched dash, and I've seen a few others without it as well. The majority of 86s seem to have the stitched leather, though - and I think almost all of the early cars have the leather dash, too.
Anyone have a non-special ordered 87+ 930 with the leather dash? Micah

I have an 87 factory slant with a non stitched dash....so it was special ordered with no stitching....but it does have the Tenax posts for the clip on tonneau cover and this was shown on the build sheet.

The leather dash was "standard" on Turbos through '86. A car could be special ordered with a vinyl dash, usually by dealers in hot climates where the leather was especially prone to warping. After all of the warranty claims, Porsche officially ended leather dashes for 930s after the '86 model year.
I'm not sure when they eventually worked out the issues with warping, but I don't think it was until the 993 that leather dashes were reintroduced. Last edited by reed930; 12-07-2008 at 01:51 PM.. |

I believe you're right....the dash on the 87 looks like vinyl that's been made to look like it has a leather grain in it....but it's not leather.

My '79 appears to be leather, but I don't see any stitching.
