they do have nubs(?) that hold them on, but more often, its the rubber thats sticking them.
try twisting them until they spin freely then pull....or use a scribe or a very small screwdriver that you've bent at a 90 to both gently pry the boot off the cap (do not pry the whole wire off the cap....just the stuck boot) and to brake the vacuum holding the wire on.
