I feel for you brother!!! There is no more a sinking feeling than that of either breaking a stud, or dropping a small metal object in a crankcase or turbo!!!!
Perhaps this thread will help. Even though it deals with exhaust studs, I'm sure the logic could be applied:
A tail of burnt spaghetti and broken exhaust studs.
In addition, I remember seeing a fixture/jig that someone was selling to make this job painless. I thought it was Stromski Racing, but I checked their site and couldn't find it.
