The hand brake switch is a good place to start, make sure the wire that goes to it (maybe yellow if I remember correctly) is not grounding along the tunnel someplace, then check the master... The master cylinder in my car had an internal leak so no fluid was lost, but there was a pressure imbalance so the brake light came on soon after a reset. Braking was less than perfect too so I replaced the master and all is well.
