911 Parking Break Light Stays On

83 SC euro. I looked for the reset button on the master cylinder and couldn't find one. Does disconnecting the connector from the light affect the cruise control?

Not familiar with your year/model.

Do you have brake pad wear sensors?

I think the brake fluid level sensor also triggers this light.

peregrine, there is a potential fix for this--I think you can search on "parking brake" and find it. But it didn't work for me and my SC.

I gave up and disconnected the light--didn't really need it anyway. Just pull out the light from the dash and disconnect it--1 minute fix.

Check the fluid level, disconnect the battery let it set for a few minutes, reconnect. If the light is still on, check the emergency brake for the tab making contact when the handle is pulled up.

83s have a fluid level sensor? Guess it's to go along with the 02. Newer cars also have a fluid level sensor, too, but not sure any SCs had one.

Bruce is right--the most likely culprit is the tab at the handle (which also was contacting fine for mine)

The hand brake switch is a good place to start, make sure the wire that goes to it (maybe yellow if I remember correctly) is not grounding along the tunnel someplace, then check the master... The master cylinder in my car had an internal leak so no fluid was lost, but there was a pressure imbalance so the brake light came on soon after a reset. Braking was less than perfect too so I replaced the master and all is well.
mark.

When I rebuilt the calipers on my '75, the brake light started flashing. I think that the "flashing" light is indicative of the need to re-set the switch on the master cylinder. However, I've received a 50-50 split in opinions regarding this. I. too looked for a reset switch, but couldn't see one. Yesterday I got tired of the flashing and pulled the bulb.

Light on without flashing sounds like fluid (if you have a sensor) or handbrake.
