Good result. And I hope the Targa owning Canuck will continue to lend his real tool and die machinist skills to the shade tree guys like me as the occasion arises.
Now the more interesting question is how did the threads in the hole this stud fits in get buggered in the first place? There is no reason to remove that stud for any sort of starter or tranny work.
I suppose the nut could have rusted on, causing the stud to act like a bolt? And backing out stripped the softer case threads?
The tranny cases for 1972 (the 915 tranny) were a magnesium alloy (conventionally called just magnesium).
