Did you replace the water pump, or know if it had been done recently? It is recommended to do the pump at the same time as the belts as you have to go through the same procedure to access the pump as you do for the belts. Also, a newly tensioned belt can put enough stress on an old water pump to cause accelerated failure.

Also, don't forget to retention the belt after break in period, which I've read is about 2k miles, but have seen recommendations for as little as 500 miles.
