GE was big into this in the late 90's. They were going to sell an appliance version of this, which would also produce hot water. They bought up a startup in Schenectady, NY. It never panned out.
They bought out PlugPower. A bunch of the better GE engineers went there. The problem was the reformer, which strips the Hydrogen from the methane.
