Hello I just bought my wife a 91 318i our first BMW and we love it we do have a few problems though. The Catalytic Convertor was noisy so I removed it and the noise still persisted so I welded in a generic muffler, still noisy. Only now it seems to be coming from the front end. Spending over 1100 cdn right now is not affordable but I will be replacing the entire exhaust a.s.a.p. I read on another thread that the valves had to be redone at 150-180K, this car has 164000 km on it and the top end is quite noisy so now I am wondering about that. How can I diagnose the valve condition, the car is beautiful the body and interiorare very clean and, it is so nice to drive.I am glad her other car died but the timing could have been a little better.
