Of course, that classification system doesn't work completely. For instance, "early" cars had the fixed passenger's seat. Uh, but so did 72s.
So terms like "early" wind up being kind of nebulous. But you can at least usually count on "early" including the 70-71 cars, and "late" including the 75-76 cars, because there wasn't a whole lot of difference between either year within each of those pairs. 72-74 is where lots of stuff got changed.
