You probably know this but the switches are just a negative ground to close circuit of the interior light and on 3.2's, to operate the windows when the car is off until doors are ajar which opens that circuit.
Have you tried cleaning and polish the original switch and making certain the ground wire is securely crimped or better yet soldered.
If so, while the switch is removed and depressed. Ground it by touching the pilar/chassis, it should turn on the interior light. Check both sides to verify.
My passenger side switch was a bit bent so when the door opens it would bind up and the debris did not help either. I cleaned it, polished, straightened it out, insured the spring worked properly, lubed and tested. All good.
