OK, well now Im getting more confused. First, the Red Book, which I agree is good information but may be mistaken in some ways, clearly lists this engine, 902789, in the 'o' series, built 1/65-7/65. The 66 and 67 engines are much higher numbers in the series. Second, my 67 vin 306038, with original engine 909566, which I believe is an aluminum engine, has the number facing the right side, not the back of the engine. Clearly one of the guidelines is not correct, or?
